    Welcome to the HozOboz pages. Today our hero is corn grits soup. One of the recipes that may well pretend to be a family favorite. Soups love, if not all, then many, and such soups as this one are tasty and unusual at the same time. Everyone is familiar with soups with rice, buckwheat or pasta, but corn grits are rarely used in such dishes. You can see for yourself that such an experiment is quite a place to be, but only later, but for now a little history and only then the soup with corn grits itself and its recipe.

    History of the dish

    Soup is the first dish that appeared under this name in the era of Peter I. Before that, everyone knew about stews, yushki, fish soup with the addition of all sorts of cereals or homemade noodles. The soup was distinguished by the fact that it was served as a rule in pots and in its composition, at least 50% of the liquid was an indispensable condition. The soup was always eaten with wooden spoons. The name came to us from many Western European languages: in Holland - soep, in Germany - suppe, in France - soupe and so on. But there is also an opinion that all these names come from the late Latin word suppa, which literally means “bread dipped in gravy”.

    In our case, the soup with corn grits will be without meat, but it may well be prepared in the same way with chicken or veal. It's all a matter of taste and imagination of the hostess. And we, perhaps, will begin.


    • Corn grits - 100 g
    • Water - 2 liters
    • Potatoes - 4 pcs.
    • Carrots - 1 pc.
    • Bulb onions - 1 pc.
    • Salt - 1 tsp
    • Ground black pepper - ½ tsp.
    • Bay leaf - 2 pcs.
    • Vegetable oil - 4 tablespoons
    • For filing:
    • Fresh parsley to taste


    1. Prepare food: clean and wash all vegetables.

    2. Wash the cereal.

    3. Put it in a saucepan, fill it with water. Let’s cook (30 minutes).

    4. Cut the potatoes into cubes.

    5. Chop the onion into cubes, grate the carrots on a coarse grater.

    6. Put the vegetables in a frying pan with vegetable oil.

    7. Fry until soft.

    8. Put the potatoes in a saucepan to the grits. We will cook for 15 minutes.

    9. Add the sautéed vegetables, salt, pepper and bay leaves. After 5-7 minutes, remove the saucepan with the prepared soup from the stove.

      Now we add sautéed vegetables, as well as salt and spices to the future soup. Boil the soup and after 5 minutes remove from the stove

    10. Pour the soup into portioned bowls, add finely chopped parsley to each. Let's serve it to the table.
